This week's #MemberMonday, Airbus Helicopters, is preparing the next phase of flight testing for its innovative Racer demonstrator, designed to combine the speed of an airplane with the versatility of a helicopter. FlightGlobal reports that upcoming trials will focus on proving the aircraft's capabilities beyond speed, including long-distance flights, quieter approaches, and an innovative eco-mode system that allows one of its two engines to enter standby during cruise to reduce fuel consumption. The compound helicopter, which combines a conventional main rotor with wings and two lateral propellers, has already demonstrated cruise speeds of approximately 237 knots (273 mph) while consuming 25% less fuel than a comparable conventional helicopter. Future testing will explore an additional 15% reduction in fuel burn using eco-mode and a potential 30% reduction in ground-level noise, advancing technologies that could benefit future commercial, emergency medical, and military rotorcraft.Read more at www.flightglobal.com/helicopters-defence/2026/10/airbus-helicopters-details-test-plan-to-prove-ra... ... More than 2,500 aircraft are now equipped with Garmin's emergency Autoland system, just over six years after its initial certification in 2020. Available on more than 15 aircraft models, the technology can autonomously navigate and land an aircraft if the pilot becomes incapacitated, either through passenger activation or automatically when no pilot interaction is detected. During 2026, Autoland received certification on four additional aircraft models, including the HondaJet Elite II and Embraer Phenom 300EV, marking its expansion into twin-engine jets. Nearly 250 aircraft have also been retrofitted with the system after delivery. Garmin expects further certifications in 2027 for several Cessna Citation Gen3 models and the Beechcraft Denali. ...
